With news of the cancelation of the Australian Sailing Youth Championships scheduled for January 2021 filtering through the sailing community the RTYF board took another unprecedented step announcing that they would withhold most of the grant monies allocated to sailors intending to travel overseas who were unable to, due to regattas and events being cancelled and other covid related restrictions.
The Foundation announced that they would redirect the allocated but unused 2020 grants back into the local sailing community.
Our aim was to provide on-going high-quality coaching to Western Australian sailors in spite of there being no National Championships and give our young sailors ‘something to do’.

Goolagatup Sailing Carnival: $17,500
As the world continued to feel the grip of the global pandemic called Covid 19, our sailing world and the aspirations of many of our sailors came to a complete stop. Many national and international sailing events were cancelled or postponed. Many of our sailors who had planned to travel to compete or were competing outside of Western Australia were forced to cancel plans and get ‘home’.
For the first time in its history, RTYF took the innovative step announcing to all Western Australian Clubs and Class Associations that ‘for this year only’ additional financial support would be given to assist in running extra local coaching programmes and Regattas.
