The Ron Tough Yachting Foundation Grants
The Ron Tough Foundation was established in 1980, with Syd Corser as the inaugural chairman. Its mission is to encourage excellence in sailing in Western Australia, with an emphasis on emerging talented youth.
The Ron Tough Yachting Foundation is pleased to have supported many promising young sailors from most Western Australian yacht clubs. Many of them have gone on to considerable success in the competitive yachting world, including Olympic campaigns and World Championships. Funding this level of yachting is expensive and difficult. The Foundation has also been able to support a number of yacht clubs and class associations in their endeavours to grow the sailing talent pool within Western Australia.
Each year, Foundation, determining the awards which are presented annually. This year, 2020, will be a special year as the Foundation is celebrating its 40th year of existence and of being able to assist and promote Sailing in Western Australia. The Awards Night will be held at 6.00pm on Thursday 12th March 2020 at Nedlands Yacht Club – and will be more than just a Presentation Night! We look forward to seeing you there!
The Ron Tough Yachting Foundation’s Gold medal is the most prestigious yachting award in WA and may be awarded for an “Outstanding Contribution to Yachting” or an “Outstanding Competitive Performance”. The Board of Directors also award a Silver Medal for “Youth Sailor of the Year”, a Bronze Medal for “Junior Sailor of the Year” and the annual Syd Corser Scholarship
Since first awarded in 1983, grants totaling over $1,000,000 have been made. Applications for grants and awards shall be made by completing the electronic application form and submitting with your photos.
The Ron Tough Yachting Foundation thanks the supporting clubs, particularly the major yacht clubs, for their financial support over the years, and looks forward to working with all clubs and their members in building on the strengths of the Foundation into the future.
The Ron Tough Yachting Foundation’s policy is to encourage excellence in yachting by people of all ages, but with the emphasis on youth. The Board of Directors of The Ron Tough Yachting Foundation are interested in Clubs and Associations in the education, participation and in helping those who do not have access to assistance from other sources.
The grant as determined by the Directors may be awarded to one or more beneficiaries.

Grants are awarded at the annual Ron Tough Yachting Foundation Awards Night next hosted at Nedlands Yacht Club on Thursday 12th March 2020. Applicants will be notified by email if you are either successful or unsuccessful in due time after the selection process in late February2020.
It is required that the name of successful applicant(s) shall remain confidential until the award of the grant.
